When to Say Buh-Bye to…Your Swimsuit

My goal for this series is to help you recognize when it is time to let things go. And that it makes sense to let things go that no longer serve you or their purpose. I find with a lot of people, letting things go is a difficult and challenging ask. It doesn’t have to be. All you need is a fresh frame of mind and to be firm and honest with yourself. I am here to help inspire you to see through a new lens, look at things differently, potentially learn something new and maybe have a little fun along the way.

By the way, fun fact, I had a dream one night a few months ago that I was writing a blog and ‘when to say buh-bye to your swimsuit’ was the topic I was writing about! It is this dream and this particular topic that instigated starting my blog. Then, I thought of turning this idea into a series on my blog. In a funny way, writing this article means my dream came true.

Anyway, so here we go, in no particular order, here is a list of when it is time to say buh-bye…

When…Reason
1. White is no longer white [is grey] and black is no longer black [is grey]Swimsuits in these hues just do not keep their crispness, it just happens and is noticeable. As a side note, I do not think I will purchase a black swimsuit again. As much as I love a black swimsuit, I just could not manage to re-apply sunscreen without getting it allover the black fabric and it is super noticeable
2. The vibrant colour your swimsuit once was has since seriously fadedChlorine and frequent washing can do this and is noticeable the colour has faded
3. You have a baggy bottomReally not flattering for you. Here is a secret for the style of bottom to buy…with ruching! Ruching on a swimsuit is seriously the best invention since sliced bread. It adds an instant booty lift
4. Your swimsuit is more than 5 years old.Yes, yes, I can hear you . You are saying that you do not wear a swimsuit enough to warrant a new one every 5 years. Hear me out. You have to admit that styles, material, colours, patterns, cuts and your shape have likely changed within a 5 year period. Having a new swimsuit that fits great and you feel good in is worth the $ for a new one. You don’t have to spent $200, you can find one for $40, $20 for that matter
5. There are snags, pulls, pills, stains, worn fabric from sitting or velcro snagged it or whatever the case may be
This is a clear cut sign that it is past it’s swimsuit life
6. The colour really isn’t flattering to your skin toneSwimwear is just like regular clothing and what colours suit you. For example, very fair skin with a white swimsuit – not so much the best colour for you. Or you bought a swimsuit on sale and the colour is just dang not good
7. Someone comments on the style of your swimsuit in any way that is not positive
It is time to suss out a new one
8. You hear your inner voice ask ‘is this too small?’ or ‘is this too big?’
If you hear yourself asking that question, the answer is always yes. Tip, I have actually taken a swimsuit to a seamstress/tailor for adjustments for a better fit
9. You simply can’t remember when it was the last time you wore it
Refer to #4 – just sayin’

10. You find yourself constantly fixing, fussing, fiddling and fidgeting with it
This is evidence that it’s not the right fit, size or style
You can find this swimsuit on zaful.com. Love the colour and is a flattering style. Would give it a full thumbs up if it only had ruching
You can find this swimsuit on shein.com. Love the colour, and criss-cross style top is great for support or to enhance your bust-line and bikini bottom has ruching for a better fit
You can find this one-piece on cupshecom. Love the tropical print, style and ruching on the hip and tummy, so flattering!

Final Thoughts

In a swimsuit, you want to feel as confident as possible, therefore, it is worthwhile to find a new one that makes you feel confident even though this is not an article of clothing you frequently wear. I am aware that with swimsuits, you may have to try on many to find the right one, and remember, you are not alone. This happens to everyone, no matter the body type. Love the body you are in. The reward is when you find one that you love and makes you feel good.

All the best and until next time…
