This is such a pretty palette for spring and summer. Bright and pastel shades of pink, lilac, green, yellow, purple and blue with gorgeous shimmers in champagne, blue and silver (the silver is stunning).

The reason I bought this palette is only for one reason and that is to try something new and I am having a lot of fun with it! Perhaps this post will inspire you to step out of your neutral comfort zone and try some colour! Plus, the spring and summer vibes currently happening should add additional inspiration. You can get a colourful palette at an affordable price so what do you have to lose!

I will start by saying that this palette is not as scary as it looks. The shades look bright in the pan, however, are not as pigmented when applied to your eyes. This would not be a good thing if you are a makeup artist or expecting bright pigments from this palette, however, if you are a regular makeup user like me, the shades are a bit more toned down in real life.

Ok, I know what you are thinking,..‘nope, no way, I would never wear that, and those colours would not suit me’. Tbh, I was a little intimidated by this palette at first, however, believe it or not, is very wearable, so it just might be for you too! And, you do not have to purchase this particular palette, there are plenty of other summer vibes palettes out there. The quality of this palette is good for the $18, however, ColourPop and BH Cosmetics are both affordable brands with good quality and pigmentation that lasts quite a while on the eyes. If you are looking for a colourful palette more high end, Anastasia Beverly Hills and Natasha Denona palettes are your friend.

So, to help assuage your colourful palette fears, here are some tips:

How to Wear Bright Colours

  1. Apply the shades as you typically would to your eyelids. You can use just one shade if you like, or combine a few shades together. That is the great advantage of a palette, the colours are designed to complement each other and to be worn together as the shades are all of a specific tone and hue. Palettes take the guess-work out for us.
  2. In addition to colour on your eyelid (above), you can add a shimmer shadow to the eyelid that is best applied with your finger. This look is so pretty and can soften the colourful shades for another wearable look.
  3. Choose a bright shade and wear only on the lower lash line and wear neutrals on your eyelids. Or, choose a bright shimmer and wear on your lower lash line. Using a setting spray or water on your brush before applying shimmer can help it to be more pigmented and decrease fallout.
  4. Wear a colourful shade applied as an ‘eyeliner’ so to speak. In other words, apply neutral tones to your eyelid and add one of the colourful shades as your eyeliner.
  5. Take your look one step further. By adding a brown, navy or black liquid winged liner to a colourful eyeshadow look somehow pulls the whole look together. In addition, a very useful tip I have learned that pulls a colourful eyeshadow look together is to then add a pair of false eyelashes (with your winged eyeliner). If false lashes feels like too much work, what is easy and super pretty and more on point is to add one or two sets of trio false eyelashes to your outer upper lashes. And voila! You have created an amazing spring, summer wearable pretty look.
This is a great, affordable and easy lash trio to apply to your upper outer eyelashes

There are many possibilities.

Final thoughts

Hopefully, I have inspired you to think outside of the box, experiment and try something new that you may never have thought of trying before. The important thing is to have a little fun by adding a colourful palette to your makeup collection. With spring and summer upon us, now is the perfect time. A palette like this can give you a little boost and for under $20, a fun, new look without breaking the bank. Yes, you can do this! This type of palette is totally doable in whichever of the above ways you decide to wear it!

All the best and until next time…
