Benefits Of Cream Blush – A Must Have In Your Makeup Collection

With respect to cream blush, I held off for as long as I could (even though, let’s be honest, I knew I was going to succumb). Anyway, as a makeup lover and reviewer, it was time to take the plunge and hit that cream blush trend!

I am super excited to report that my first ever cream blush purchase was a huge success. I purchased the Mac Glow Play Blush in colour, So Natural (pictured above). I did a lot of research and ended up trying the Mac product as my first cream blush as it seemed to fit what I was looking for.

I am (and still will be) a powder blush girl heart to heart, through and through, mainly because that is what I am used to and I know I have so much control applying a powder blush with a brush. I can place it exactly where I want it, boom, no muss no fuss. I was totally apprehensive, the thought of trying to blend out a cream blush with my finger or a brush or sponge, seemed that it would take forever, stick to my skin, be splotchy and I would end up with blush allover the entire side of my face…or so I thought.

Until I tried the Mac Glow Play Blush! You guys, this is a serious go out and buy it now! It is soft, cushiony, sheer to medium buildable coverage, radiant, all day wear that doesn’t fade, gives your cheeks a beautiful, natural, radiant glow, super pretty and is very easy to blend…I know!! I said that in Monica’s voice, for Friends fans https://youtu.be/XMDlIAnJAQs . Cream blush is incredibly easy to use even for makeup newbies and is a really beautiful consistency.

Benefits of cream blush:

  1. Provides a youthful glow to your skin and your cheeks – gives you a fresh, supple, natural glow from within look
  2. Works for all skin types and especially for dry or mature skin as it’s dewy, youthful and natural looking without enhancing texture
  3. Applies well over foundation and powder – who would have thought!
  4. Wears better over sunscreen – applying a powder blush over sunscreen will not end well. Let me rephrase, it will ‘somewhat’ end well, but will be patchy, uneven and kind of a mess. Applying a cream blush will apply smoother over sunscreen, give you a natural cheek flush so it’s not obvious that you are wearing makeup (is she?…isn’t she?)
  5. A cream blush can be thrown into your bag and helpful for when you reapply your sunscreen, you can easily reapply cream blush with your finger, voila!
  6. Great for the beach, pool and in warmer weather
  7. Can do double duty as a lip product in a pinch

The best way to apply a cream blush is with a dense brush with shorter bristles, your finger or a sponge. I find a dense brush works the best and easiest for me, however, a fluffy blush brush will also work, however, you will not get as much pigment out of the gate unless you continue to build.

Final Thoughts

I may not be totally converted to cream blush solely, as there are benefits to powder blush too, however, I am excited to have another option that I love especially for summer and vacationing. Plus for myself personally, I tend to drop things and knowing that I cannot drop and shatter a cream blush or it won’t get broken in my travel bag means that I will definitely opt for cream blush in my travels.

Now, not all cream blushes work as well as the MAC product I used (this is not sponsored by Mac the way). I spent hours reading reviews on cream or liquid blushes and there are cream blushes that remove your foundation and powder or the cream product disappears quickly or is patchy. So the brand of cream blush you buy can be hit or miss. There are other brands that I am sure work well (and I will add to this post if I discover other brands), however, if you were chicken to try cream blush like I was, and don’t want to spend your hard earned money buying a product that doesn’t work, hopefully this post will help as I have tried this one and it works for me!

All the best and until next time…
