6 Easy Wardrobe Tweaks to Elevate Your Look

Do you feel your wardrobe could use a little oomph?

It is always a perfect time and a good idea to freshen things up. When you tweak your wardrobe, even slightly, it can give you a lift and improve your confidence. We do get in habits where we tend to buy or wear the same styles over and over, however, it only takes a slight tweak or swap in your choices to make a difference and elevate your look. Elevating your wardrobe moves the needle in your fashion journey, initiates growth and positive change that has a domino effect to other areas of your life.

I have listed below 6 wardrobe tweaks or swaps that are easy changes you can adopt and work toward. It does not have to be all at once, although you can if you want to! However, most often, we feel more comfortable with baby steps.

Instead of:Opt For:Details
1. Cardigan

BlazerYou should have a minimum of 2 blazers, one regular length, one cropped; either casual or a more dressy is fine as either will go nicely with jeans, pants or dresses. Depending on where you live and your climate, you may want to consider an additional 2 blazers, one set for spring/summer and fall/winter
2. Jean or leggingCasual PantJeans are a great option, however, it is nice to have other options for a change to your look. And frankly, sometimes I get tired of always wearing jeans, so let’s change it up! Leggings should be limited if you want to elevate your wardrobe
3. Running shoeFashion RunnerRegular running shoes should only be worn when exercising, at all other times, wear fashion runners
4. SweaterBlouseSweaters are fine, however, with the styles now, they can be baggy and unflattering or the opposite and too form-fitting for certain situations (such as for work). A button down blouse is a nice, clean, upscale choice
5. Knee High BootBootieKnee high boots are fine, they have pros and cons, however, I believe the trend is going toward a bootie as they are a better, more stylish, modern, cleaner choice
6. Separates (pant or jean and a top)DressDresses are not only for special occasions, they are versatile, feminine, will elevate your look and a great choice for running errands, work, coffee, lunch, dinner etc.

Below are examples of the 6 tweaks from my wardrobe. You can adopt your own style and purchase what you like.

Tweak #1 – A blazer can add a fun, upscale casual look @dolceandgabbana
Tweak #2 – An alternative to jeans is a fun pant, it can be any casual pant. I am working on building more casual pants into my wardrove as I find ones I like @jacquelineconoir
Tweak #3 – Always wear a fashion runner rather than a running shoe @stevemadden
Tweak #4 – A button down blouse elevates your look @mango
Tweak #5 – A bootie rather than a knee high boot @vincecamuto
Tweak # 6 – This is one of my favourite dresses for whatever activity! I have it in purple also. It’s cotton and easy to wash, I travel with it, wear it all season and I can dress it up or down @nordstrom

Final thoughts

If at first thought, you feel that the ‘Opt for’ options do not seem practical for your lifestyle, I encourage you to try it and see how it goes as these options can be just as easy choices. You may just need to form a new habit and have the desire to change things up. For example, dresses are an easy option. When you are dressing for the day and looking for a top to go with your pants, you have to consider colours and fabric, is it the right style, is the top too casual, or too dressy, tuck in, tuck out, with a belt, no belt, etc. When you throw on a dress, ta-da, that’s it!! A dress takes a lot of the uncertainty and guess work out. Plus it elevates your look, even if it is a casual dress.

It just takes a few wardrobe tweaks to make a difference.

All the best and until next time…
